Bee Careful
Aug. 2nd, 2009 | 11:57 am
Left the house around 8 in the morning to take advantage of the morning light. Got some neat pictures but what I'm really proud of is my bee.

And a zoomed version for bee detail.

I ended up the coffee shop and finished 'Beth Avery and the Man Under the Fridge' but I really need to polish the hell out of it. I think I might scrap the whole damn story though so I'm going to let it sit for a few days. On my way home is when I saw this huge bush swarming with bees. I usually stay away from bees and other things with stingers but I couldn't resist this time. I hadn't seen a bee in awhile come to think of it....

I had a real long day today and will have a longer day tomorrow but that's ok. Here's a picture I took few days ago. It's flower buds. I think it's a pretty picture.

The Dangers of Photography or How I Was Almost Implanted With Thousands of Wasp Eggs
Jul. 26th, 2009 | 10:31 am
I decided yesterday evening to hop outside and snap a few pictures. Across from where I live is a small lot slightly overgrown and it was there I headed. Between a few trees heavy with moss their branches dipping low creating a small secret wonderland for dragonflies and ground flowers is where I almost met my death.

The middle strand of moss is coated with wasps; Ichneumonidae to be exact, a type of parasitic wasp. I stood up from taking a picture of a flower, whirled around to head out of the cove and came within inches of walking into this piece of moss. The wasps flew up in unison and settled down again. Recovering and gaining my bravado back I decided to take a few pictures of what I thought, at the time at least, was almost the face of my demise.

It was until getting home and with the aid of Google and Wikipedia that I found out these little buggers do not often attack humans and should they, then I doubt much harm would be done. These wasps lay their eggs in other insects and bugs. The eggs hatch and the larvae devour the host a most efficient system.
I wish I could tell you that I defended myself against a legion of angry swarming mutant wasps hell bent on laying their eggs inside of my brain. I wish I could tell you that for defense I was armed only with a tennis racket and my steel courage. I wish I could tell you that I defeated the unholy sprites of Hell but that would all be a lie.

Instead I backed up recovered my breath, wondering why the hell didn't these things attack me and took a few pictures before retreating to the safety of my home.
Be alert of your surroundings especially when trekking through the not-so-wild places of the city because even in an old lot one could find dangers lurking that no one would expect. If these were yellow jackets as I originally feared I would be in a whole lot of pain today.
With that being said I'm going back to this place today to see if these wasps are still there and if I can get some closer pictures but be assured that I will be wearing long sleeves and jeans.

MORE POWER!
Sat outside trying to catch a lightening bolt. Everytime I looked away there was a HUGE bolt. Next time, I won't look away.

Just a Note for Me
Jul. 7th, 2009 | 09:50 pm
I think my next camera is going to be an Olympus Evolt E-420. It's small and it's cheap averaging from 300 to 380 depending on what's included. It's decent for the price and I feel a nice step up into the DSLR world. I'm using a Canon Powershot a590 IS right now and, ideally, would love a Rebel or a Nikon D40 or D80 I'll be more comfortable purchasing the Olympus.
It was suggested to me that I should start buying camera stuff with art that I sell. I haven't honestly, truly given much thought into this but I suppose it's worth a shot. Maybe I can pass off some poetry as something to be bought or a picture or two.

Dancing at the Flea Market
Jul. 5th, 2009 | 07:46 pm
I went to the Flea Market today. I got Adventures of Link and drooled over some cameras. I also took a few pictures of the karaoke and the people dancing there.

I'll probably post the other pictures I took at the Flea Market later on.

The End?
May. 20th, 2009 | 10:29 am

It's late, and blurry and by far the worst picture in the adventure but here it is.
It was raining pretty steadily when I took this and so I wanted to do it quick and not risk damaging my camera. I'm sure Penguin will reappear later on.
There are a few more that I didn't post in my LJ that can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36525771@N0

I've been rather busy today, what with babysitting and all, but I did manage to take a few pictures of Penguin.

Needless to say, he's in trouble.
Penguin's Big Picture Adventure ends tomorrow. Kinda bittersweet...

Penguin's Big Picture Adventure
May. 15th, 2009 | 05:22 pm
It's rainy season in Florida! Which means every afternoon between 3pm and 5pm it's going to rain and rain and rain.
This was actually tricky to get. I had to wrap my camera in plastic wrap and kneel down in a puddle trying not to dip my camera or my knees in the water. Oh, and my camera battery is dying and since it was raining I did not want to walk to the store.

Penguin's Problem

I dug these out of the garbage; they are all empty. Penguin smoked them all. He's quitting though. He promises.
( One More!! )
Penguin's Big Picture Adventure is, so far, very fun for me to shoot. There's some other pictures that I haven't posted here on my flickr account but I'm not one to pimp my stuff; I'm far too humble for that.

The Street

Penguin has decided to set off with no set destination in mind. He'll be like Caine, walking the Earth meeting people, getting into adventures...
Where do you think Penguin should go?
