An Awesome Reading List

I guess I better organize this just a tad!
Starting on Sep 30, 2008.
I've slowed considerably since starting. Before this list I read a handful of other books but didn't bother to keep track of. This included World War Z, the Morning Star Strain (a zombie novel of poor quality but entertaining none the less), Jedi Twilight, The Woman in the Dunes, The Stranger, and The Road.
As of right now, The Road is my favorite book. Read it. Read The Road. People should plan on getting his book from me for the holidays.
( The Have Reads )
The "Will Reads":
This list will only get longer and longer and longer. If you have a suggestion then please feel free to leave a comment. I will make a short little list of the books that I plan to read in the very near future but probably won't because I'll just get side-tracked by other books. Such is life.
Ark Sakura:
Another Kobo Abe book! I loves him!
Here's an entry about how much I love Kobo Abe: http://katoki.livejournal.com/489374.htm l
Kangaroo Notebook:
Dude has radishes growing on his leg and goes to HELL VALLEY! Again, a Kobo Abe book.
London Fields:
Martin Amis wrote this one.
Against The Day
Thomas Pynchon. Harlock gave a description of this book and now I need it.
Notre-Dame de Paris:
jackks suggested that I read this and I see no reason not to.
The "Now Readings":
I only ever read one book at one time unless it's a fiction and a non-fiction book. Maybe I'll include short stories in this list since I will take time out to read a story here and there along with a novel.
Currently Reading:
Crime and Punishment:
Time for some Russian Lit. Maybe I should have a bottle of vodka with me while I read it?
The Elements of Style
Started: 12/12
Promises to be fun and entertaining.

Stuff About Writing
I think I'm going to cut out the last paragraph of 'The Day the Squids Took Over the World!' (see entry earlier in the week for story) I should also rewrite it and polish it up some.
While on my hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor I came up with yet another idea for another story that I'm going to whip up today. It'll have a happy ending; at least at this stage in development it will have a happy ending. Then, maybe, I'll start work on "Hess on that Old Clay Red" which is the long project that I want to do. (avoiding calling it a novel) I have like 12 pages of planning already; just gotta flush it out some and start the whole writing thing.
I also need to polish up "Charlie August and the All Night Doughnut Shop". I got some helpful advice on it so I'm going to rewrite it.
Here's the story in case any of you wanna read it.
( Charlie August.... )
Stuff Not About Writing
Talked to my sister today! She is all moved in and lives in a Mennonite neighborhood which I find to be freakin' funny. Talked to Jos also who asked me to come and visit. That broke my heart seeing how Steph lives like 2 hours away or something and I have no car!!! Maybe in a month or so Gilbert and I can take a train over and spend a few days there. That'ld be nice.
This headache, this constant headache I've had since Sunday is really starting to get annoying and painful. Right behind my eyes and I'm now getting sensitive to light. I swear to God if I get a fucking migraine I'm going to...well....crawl under the blankets and pray for peace and quiet. It's just a stress headache though but asprin won't help. Maybe some Excedrin migrane stuff...I should try that.
I've been watching nothing but Venture Brothers all day. I'm kicking it old school right now with Season One; currently Brisby Land!!!

Never ever ever depend on family for help or understanding.
Also, I forgot about Harry Potter. I fail at life.

The Day the Squids Took Over the World!
Jul. 14th, 2009 | 01:15 pm
Here's a story that I wrote just today! Isn't that amazing! Not so much since it is very short and mostly dialogue but it has squids in it and squids are cool so you should read it.

Two Sentences From a Story I'm Writing
Jul. 14th, 2009 | 11:17 am
At half past seven in the morning, Colleen Jenkins woke up to find a squid sitting on her couch. She had stumbled into the kitchen for coffee and from there saw the cephalopod, all eight tentacles twitching and exploring the cushions and arm rest as if it was perfectly comfortable and content.

I'm Just Ramblin'
Jul. 14th, 2009 | 08:23 am
Linda got me an awesome Star Wars shirt!!!!! I'ld post a picture but my camera's batteries are dead.
I had a dream that I started my period. It just so happens that the underwear in the dream is the pair I choose to wear today. Didn't realize that until I slipped them on.
Work, should be ok save for the group of 30 old people that will be there around 5pm and then the 12 people that should be there around 5:30. It's been dead as hell at work lately so reservations of this kind are a good thing. Though a little annoying since I hate how my boss wants large groups taken care of. Ah well. At least I'll make some money....hopefully!
I'm spending my morning watching Season 2 of the Venture Brothers. Forgot about great episodes like Return to the House of Mummies pt. 2 and 20 Years to Midnight! Oh and then there's the Guild of Calamitous Intent video that Dr. O receives!

Can You Guess the Poet!?
Jul. 12th, 2009 | 09:50 am
I have randomly selected four poems from books I have laying about the house. Try and guess who wrote what (I won't post the names of the poets since that'll make it easier) without the use of Google and you'll get a prize! (Well, admiration) I'll, at least, provide titles. That should make it easier.
yay!
Maybe I'll provide the names of the poets....
Edit: The names of the poets are: Poe, William Carlos Williams, Dorothy Parker, and Emily Dickinson but not in that order.

REQUEST A PICTURE DAY
Jul. 11th, 2009 | 05:05 pm
Since my whole "I'll Draw Something for you" post failed miserably let's try it with pictures.
I plan on going out and about tomorrow to take some pictures. If you would like me to take a picture of something specific I will; just ask. If it's something zany all the better.
If there is a certain Madame Bireaux who would like to join me than she should call me.

The fact that I'm too stress to worry anymore is a very dangerous thing. A proper amount of stress is a healthy thing but the amount I have right now has pushed me straight into apathy and it is that apathy that is just going to make things all the worse. I have two very large and very outstanding bills due and not nearly enough money to cover either one. So, while I should be kicking "It" into high gear I have shifted into neutral and have given up.
I need a kick in the ass and there is no one but me that will do the deed.
Goddammit.

watching Hell's Kitchen and studying commas. Commas, commas, commas, fucking commas. I'm very weak when it comes to grammar and I'm aiming to change it.
but lord do I hate commas.

Just a Note for Me
Jul. 7th, 2009 | 09:50 pm
I think my next camera is going to be an Olympus Evolt E-420. It's small and it's cheap averaging from 300 to 380 depending on what's included. It's decent for the price and I feel a nice step up into the DSLR world. I'm using a Canon Powershot a590 IS right now and, ideally, would love a Rebel or a Nikon D40 or D80 I'll be more comfortable purchasing the Olympus.
It was suggested to me that I should start buying camera stuff with art that I sell. I haven't honestly, truly given much thought into this but I suppose it's worth a shot. Maybe I can pass off some poetry as something to be bought or a picture or two.

A Thought
Jul. 6th, 2009 | 07:59 pm
I'm thinking about revamping this thing and focus on more "serious" matters than whatever inane crap pops into my head. There are shades of the more "serious" matters such as my post on Imagist and other writing related matters.
But....I'll probably keep it how it is....I'm lazy like that.

Iceberg Theory
Jul. 5th, 2009 | 11:44 pm
"If a writer of a prose knows enough about what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. The dignity of movement of the iceberg is due to only one-eighth of it being above water. The writer who omits things because he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing."
