An Awesome Reading List
Nov. 11th, 2012 | 02:04 pm
Current Emotional State:
accomplished
I guess I better organize this just a tad!
Starting on Sep 30, 2008.
I've slowed considerably since starting. Before this list I read a handful of other books but didn't bother to keep track of. This included World War Z, the Morning Star Strain (a zombie novel of poor quality but entertaining none the less), Jedi Twilight, The Woman in the Dunes, The Stranger, and The Road.
As of right now, The Road is my favorite book. Read it. Read The Road. People should plan on getting his book from me for the holidays.
( The Have Reads )( The Have Reads )
The "Will Reads":
This list will only get longer and longer and longer. If you have a suggestion then please feel free to leave a comment. I will make a short little list of the books that I plan to read in the very near future but probably won't because I'll just get side-tracked by other books. Such is life.
Ark Sakura:
Another Kobo Abe book! I loves him!
Here's an entry about how much I love Kobo Abe: http://katoki.livejournal.com/489374.htm l
Kangaroo Notebook:
Dude has radishes growing on his leg and goes to HELL VALLEY! Again, a Kobo Abe book.
London Fields:
Martin Amis wrote this one.
Against The Day
Thomas Pynchon. Harlock gave a description of this book and now I need it.
Notre-Dame de Paris:
jackks suggested that I read this and I see no reason not to.
The "Now Readings":
I only ever read one book at one time unless it's a fiction and a non-fiction book. Maybe I'll include short stories in this list since I will take time out to read a story here and there along with a novel.
Currently Reading:
Lolita
-Nabokov
Started: ...few days ago...what day is it? the 17th? So I started on the 11th or 13th?
The Elements of Style
Started: 12/12
Promises to be fun and entertaining.

2012

I adore the 2012 hype, the whole end of the world, Mayan Calendar bologna. As for the movie, I'm actually really excited to see it just for the special effects which look awesome. I don't care if it's not an 'intellectual' movie and I don't care if the plot sucks or the character sucks. It's always fun to watch a movie where everything gets destroyed. It looks like so much fun. It releases on my birthday, maybe I'll take everyone out to it. That'ld be super cool.

When I Become Rich....
Nov. 7th, 2009 | 06:59 pm
I'm going to start on a sleeve of tattoos. It'll have a nice, flowing feel with colors that compliment each other and carefully chosen images. One of these images is going to be Star Wars themes but for every million Star Wars tattoo there is only one good one. Gotta choose wisely.
I also want three Boos from Mario Brothers. I imaged googled Boos and, along with some porn?, found a crochet pattern!

Man, I am so tired. Just exhausted and drained. I really want some coffee but Walgreens has no sugar and I'll be damned if I'm walking to Walmart right now.
Jesus, I'm tired. .

Restored and with a new soundtrack. It's pretty groovy and rather creepy but, well, it's Lovecraft so what the hell do you expect?
And for the sake of it: http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lov
I'm probably going to repost this on Facebook tomorrow. The only thing I really ever use Facebook for is posting links to short stories and I read this one for that purpose so....yeah....for the uhm, three people that share my LJ and Facebook sorry lol

Miranda July makes me feel a little less crazy and scared that there are other crazies out in the world.
Also, Venture Brothers-Tonight! For me Tomorrow on the web!
Also, I'm nearly done with Lolita. (I wonder how many implications that line can have...)

The Question of Food
Oct. 25th, 2009 | 12:16 pm
I do not keep groceries in the house. I'm not really sure why I don't. I think it's because Gilbert and I have such a radical view on grocery shopping that I just don't care to do it anymore. So, when I am home and find myself hungry I have to "go out" an expensive habit that could be solved should I care to grocery shop. But, like I said, I just don't care to.
I'm sitting right now debating on what to eat and where to eat. This problem is only compounded by the fact that where I go has to be in reasonable walking distance or ordered online. I have no car and no phone. And, I'm working with an extremely tight budget which in all reality I shouldn't be spending any of but I have to eat.
Here are my choices:
Papa Johns: Get a nice medium pizza and have some left for Gilbert.
Crispers: A Chicken Ceasar Salad sounds like the best thing on the planet.
Walgreens: Frozen food that I'm sick of.
Longhorn: Not economical at all! But I'm sure that a single meal shouldn't run too high plus...yummy food.
Cecil's BBQ: Closed on Sunday.
That Mexican Place Downtown: Closed on Sunday.
McDonalds: Farther then I want to walk.
I kind of want some Chinese food. If I had a phone that's what I would get. Walking to a place for food sounds like a no big deal situation but you're walking while hungry and if you eat there then you walk back full of food and if you take it To Go you're still walking while hungry and now tormented by the food in the bag you're carrying. I hate walking while hungry. I hate walking while full. I hate walking while being tormented.
I think that I'm going with Papa Johns since they got this deal where you get a large specialty pizza and an order of chocolate pastry for under 20 bucks. I'll only eat half the pizza and leave the rest for Gilbert.
Edit: Nah, I'm going to Crispers to bring back a salad.

Captain Sunshine, a Story, and Boredom
Oct. 25th, 2009 | 10:58 am
It's a nice day out but I'm far too lazy to go anywhere. I'ld love to go downtown, have a coffee and muffin and write and read but the act of getting ready seems just so hard! I'ld have to brush my hair and find my shoes and then walk down there.....sigh! So hard!
I guess I can play some Left 4 Dead but I did that some this morning and discovered that today is "Idiots on Xbox Live Day" and stopped playing.
I did find out that Kevin Conroy (if you know who this is without looking it up I just might love you) is going to voice Captain Sunshine in the next episode of Venture Brothers. This makes complete sense since his sidekick that the Monarch had sent to him was called Wonder Boy (Boy Wonder: whooooo)
Confessions of a Bicycle Thief is the tentative title for the short story that I started writing, but did not finish today. If I went downtown I could finish writing the story and work on that other thing that I'm writing, but again; I'm too lazy. Too lazy and now too hungry.

Woke Up Hungry With Only 6 Sugar Packets for My Coffee
Oct. 20th, 2009 | 07:15 am
I'm a sucker for dedications. Get me a book as a gift, great. Put a witty or sincere dedication at the beginning of the book, even better. I bought Dubliners yesterday from the used bookstore with a very nice dedication to some girl named Carmen at the front. The handwriting is done in sloppy cursive in blue ink and signed by some illegible young man. I had to buy this particular copy because of that dedication. My copy of A Farewell to Arms (which I found at the same bookstore) has a great dedication but I can't find the book and can't remember what the exact words are so I'll wait to post it.
The dedication for dear Carmen goes like this:
If I ever get rich,
I'm going to buy you that Inn in Ireland and fly over
every time I want a drink.
(and whether I am ever rich or not, I will always
love you, Carmen.~
Live your Dreams.)
Love, ?????
The handwriting looks like whoever loved Carmen was nowhere near old enough to drink and I can only assume that forever was much much shorter then he had first anticipated.
++++++++++
Gilbert who is a pretty neat guy, did my laundry, the dishes and went out for sugar in the middle of the night. Finding no sugar at the local stores he ended up at 7-11. 7-11 didn't even have sugar so he brought me back sugar packets. I'm grateful for those packets; I slept like hell last night. I had this dream that I was in some hotel with another couple whose room was right across the way. I can see thier room through my room's bedroom. At one point, the couple across the way was having sex and the man's head busted through the window but he kept going at it having not even noticed.
There's more to it but I've lost most of it in the starking clarity of waking up.
So, I'm hungry, luckily I go to work soon and the cats are hungry but luckily they are spoiled cats and not really hungry but they just want to eat fresher food then what is still in the bowl. Deal with it cats!

Something To Keep in Mind
Oct. 18th, 2009 | 10:30 am
I always worked until I had something done and I always stopped when I knew what was going to happen next. But sometimes when I was starting a new story and I could not get it going, I would sit in front of the fire and squeeze the peel of the little oranges into the edge of the flame and watch the sputter of blue that they made. I would stand and look out over the roofs of Paris and think, “Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now. All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.” So finally I would write one true sentence, and then go on from there. It was easy then because there was always one true sentence that you knew or had seen or had heard someone say. If I started to write elaborately, or like someone introducing or presenting something, I found that I could cut that scroll-work or ornament out and throw it away and start with the first true simple declarative sentence I had written.

Octoberfest? More Like...Sucktoberfest
Oct. 17th, 2009 | 06:28 am
My little town had their version of Octoberfest last night. I ended up going thinking that, at the very least, I can hear some polka. Got to the downtown park area where a local band was butchering bad songs and yuppy moms and yuppy dads stood around with their blue bottles of Bud Lights while their children ran around willy nilly. There was a beer tasting tent but you had to purchase a ticket which I didn't have any funds for. Besides, I've already tasted Bud Light and I can only assume that that was all being offered; I didn't see anyone drinking anything else! I mean, sure the tent offered 'tastings' of what I can not being to imagine. Maybe they offered exotic beers to be sampled but I doubt it. There was another smaller tent selling bratwurst and a tent dedicated to the city where I guess you can sign up for some newsletter or something??? I don't know.
The whole thing was disappointing as hell. No polka music, no lederhosen, not even a German to be seen! So after five minutes Gilbert and I went to the coffee shop had a coffee together, talked and went home to the sound of The Red Hot Chili Peppers being strangled by the local band. To their credit though, the bassist was pretty good.

Here's something I wrote while not completely sober or a not completely legal substance. It's not too mangled, until the end dealing with the legality issues of the operation. It's fun to write like this but I usually loose interest fairly quickly.

Good Morning Sunshine
Oct. 15th, 2009 | 05:39 am
Woke up to my period. It was just there staring up at me with that slow knowing smile it has; telling me that this week is going to be aggravating. I knew I should've bought tampons last time I was at the store. The stupid thing needs a calender, it's a week late but maybe it's been busy or realized how stress I've been and decided to wait. Periods can be so inconsiderate.

I'm Pretty Sure I Can Never Drink Soda Again
Oct. 14th, 2009 | 08:45 pm
I used to drink a vast amount of Pepsi each and every day but over the last year I've been cutting back. Forcing myself to drink water at work, some milk at home, and coffee everywhere in between. Today I tried to have just a small glass of pepsi at work before the day really got under way it felt like acid was streaming down the walls of my stomach. Now, I know for a fact I can still drink orange soda or vault without feeling like this but dammit all to Hell; Pepsi is intolerable. I guess I'm just way too sensitive to something in the Pepsi. I should compare ingredient labels. I don't think it's an ulcer, I'm not ruling it out, but I think it's just that I can no longer handle Pepsi because I have no more tolerance for it.
I have one more of the small bills (no bill is ever a "small bill' but you get my meaning) to get out of the way this week before I can fully concentrate on the bigger fish that I must fry.
I've been trying to start "The Horla" for the past two days now but just haven't had the opportunity. I did read "The Devil" by Guy de Maupassant which was kind of neat in it's brutal simplicity and blunt, honest way of dealing with death and making a living. I'm not saying the old crone was in the wrong for finishing the job that Death was so slow in finishing; she was just trying to look out for own best interests. The son wasn't wrong for striking the deal either; he needed to bring in the wheat, dammit! The wheat! Without that wheat he earns no money and before too long he would've joined his mother. From a practical standpoint the two did what was right by them. In the romanticized emotional sense; they are both devils in their own way.
I think I'm talking crazy; I'll find out in the morning when I read this post again.

A Woman's Purse
Oct. 13th, 2009 | 07:26 am
This weekend taught me a valuable lesson about what should be in a woman's purse. Now, my purse, which is more like a messenger bag, usually holds a few things. My apron for work, pens, a spiral notebook and maybe some change. That is simply not enough. So along with whatever cosmetic need you have, makeup, mirror, brush, make sure you also have these:
Go ahead and grab your purse. You might as well put these things in there while you read. You save time that way. Efficiency!!
-Tape: Ideally masking or electrical tape. It's not enough that you have some in your car you should have a small roll on you at all times.
-Sunglasses: You never know when you need to hide your eyes from the sun or the fuzz.
-Tampons: Even when not on your period. The greatest gift you can give is a tampon to a woman in need.
-Extra Hair tie: Rubber bands will do.
-Midol/Pain Reliever: Even if you don't need it, bring it.
-Sharpie: There may be a time when you have to write on a bathroom wall.
-A small journal: You might have such a great idea but that idea may be fleeting. Write it down! (don't have a pen? Use the Sharpie!)
-Paper clips: Macgyver wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for paper clips.
-String or twine: You never know.
-Mints: I can not stress the importance of mints. Fresh breath and abolishing that unbelievable taste from your mouth, mints is a must.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I Woke Up Early Enough For Coffee So Everything Is Going To Be OK.
Oct. 12th, 2009 | 08:24 am
Well, my hangover isn't all that bad. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Water is truly the greatest thing in the world.
I had this dream this very 60's psychedelic dream set to some kind of music. I wish I could remember more of it then I do. What I do remember is one part where you see this joint on a background of swirling oranges and pinks and whites. The joint disintegrated and the left over bits snaked around for a bit before forming back into a joint. Pretty odd really.
Seeing how I spent the night listening to Woodstock cover having the dream makes some sense. I took a disposable camera and took a bunch of pictures, most of which I don't remember taking so I'm pretty excited to see those. I should get them develop today unless I get The Lazies. Expect to see pictures taken by a drunk (great book title!) in the near future!
